Dedicated to Great-Grandma McCreery

Sadly, we got a call on January 3rd that Great-Grandma McCreery had suffered a massive hemorrhagic stroke that she would not survive. We flew to D.C. on Saturday to be with the family. In technical terms...Grandma's stroke was "HUGE" and may even have involved more than one bleed, which is very unusual. Per the instructions in her living will, she was taken off life support on Friday evening. Due to the severity of her stroke, she was not expected to live more than a few minutes. Being the unbelieveably strong woman that she always has been....she defied all doctors' expectations and lived until Tuesday the following week!! ________________________________________________________
Grandma McCreery was an interesting lady. She was 88 years old and very healthy and strong right up until the end. She graduated college and worked as a teacher - in a time when this was highly unusual for women.

I'd like to invite people reading this who knew her to add any favorite stories they have about her as comments to this post.

From Forest:
Grandma started played a major role in my huge interest/addiction for movies. As a kid, when I would visit, everyday (literally everyday) she would take me to the video store and I would pick out a couple movies. She didn't care that I had seen Old Yeller 50 times already she would let me rent it anyway. Also, don't tell anyone... but occasionally I could sneak a R rated movie past her :~)

Grandma McCreery impacted me on my journey of faith. Since I moved west in 1995, I corresponded with her via snail mail and always delighted in a new arrival from her. She wrote a very long (15 handwritten pages) narrative for me about her journey of faith. Through that writing I learned much about her as well as her/my family on that side. I think she was an incredible woman....she pursued higher education in a time when a lot of women did not.
